Solid Carbide Spiral Flush-Trim Bits with Top Bearing
Top-bearing flush-trim bits follow a template or reference surface positioned above the workpiece, making them ideal for tasks where the bearing cannot run along the bottom—such as trimming a substrate flush to an attached template or trimming edge banding where the template is on top. Infinity Tools' solid carbide spiral versions add the chip-clearing advantage of spiral geometry to the precision of a top-bearing design.
Solid carbide construction (as opposed to carbide-tipped) provides a more uniform cutting edge geometry and superior wear resistance in demanding applications including MDF, plywood, high-pressure laminate, and solid hardwoods. Compression-cut versions like the 1/4" compression flush-trim bit simultaneously shear fibers downward at the top and upward at the bottom of the cut, eliminating tear-out on both faces of a panel.
Double-bearing pattern bits such as the 2-piece double bearing compression pattern set carry a bearing both above and below the cutter, letting you use the same bit for bottom-template or top-template routing without bit changes. This versatility reduces tooling cost and setup time on production runs.
Choosing the Right Flush-Trim Configuration
For straight flush trimming against an edge or template on top, use a top-bearing spiral bit. For routing both faces of a laminated panel without tear-out, choose a compression version.
