Wood Finishing Supplies: Brushes, Applicators & Safety

Wood Finishing Supplies: Brushes, Applicators & Shop Safety Gear

Achieving a professional finish requires more than good technique and quality finish products—the tools used to apply them matter just as much. This collection brings together the brushes, applicators, glue tools, and personal safety equipment that complete a well-equipped finishing station. From foam brushes for smooth water-based topcoats to glue applicator systems for clean assembly, every item here supports a cleaner, safer woodworking workflow.

Brush quality varies significantly with materials and construction. Tapered filament brushes, such as those from Wooster and Dynamic, pump finish out to the surface and cut in more precisely than untapered alternatives. The Dynamic high-density foam brush pack is ideal for water-based finishes where a smooth, streak-free application is the priority. For epoxy and resin work, the MAS 4-Sided Trowel and MAS 32-oz mixing cups keep the process accurate and mess-free.

Glue Application and Shop Safety

The FastCap Glubot glue bottles and Glubot applicator packs make glue-up cleaner and more consistent. For safety, the collection includes the over-the-glasses safety glasses for those who wear prescription eyewear, Turbo safety glasses, and NRR 24 earmuffs for hearing protection at the bench and the machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a tapered and an untapered brush for applying finish?

Tapered filament brushes come to a point at the tip, which helps pump finish out evenly and improves cutting-in at edges. Untapered brushes have a flat, level tip that reduces capacity and control, often resulting in less even coverage.

When should I use a foam brush instead of a bristle brush for wood finishing?

Foam brushes work especially well with water-based finishes and thin lacquers where you want a smooth, bubble-free surface. The Dynamic high-density foam brush pack is designed for this purpose and leaves minimal brush marks.

What safety glasses are recommended for woodworking finishing work?

For those who wear prescription eyewear, the over-the-glasses safety glasses fit comfortably over most frames. The Turbo safety glasses are a lightweight wraparound option for those without prescription lenses.

What NRR rating do I need for hearing protection in a woodshop?

The Infinity Tools NRR 24 earmuffs provide a noise reduction rating of 24 decibels, suitable for most woodworking machines. Higher-powered equipment like routers and planers may benefit from additional attenuation.

What are MAS mixing cups used for in woodworking?

The MAS 32-oz mix cups are calibrated mixing containers for accurately measuring and combining two-part epoxy resin. Proper mixing ratios are critical to full epoxy cure and film strength.

Can FastCap Glubot bottles be used with different types of glue?

Yes. FastCap Glubot bottles work with PVA wood glue and other water-based adhesives. The self-sealing tip prevents glue from drying in the nozzle between uses, keeping the bottle ready to dispense cleanly.

How do I clean foam brushes and bristle brushes after applying water-based finishes?

Rinse both foam and bristle brushes immediately after use with warm water, working finish out of the heel of the brush. Do not let water-based finishes dry in the brush. Store bristle brushes wrapped or hung to maintain the shape of the tip.

What is the Titebond silicone glue brush used for?

The Titebond silicone glue brush spreads glue evenly across flat surfaces for edge-gluing and panel assembly. Silicone bristles do not absorb glue, so cleanup is fast—simply flex the brush and dried glue peels away.

Does Infinity Tools offer a quality guarantee on finishing supplies?

Yes. All products are covered by the Infinity Tools quality guarantee. Review the page for details on returns and product satisfaction.
