Exterior 450 Clear Wood Topcoat

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Exterior 450 Clear be used on a deck or wood floor?

No. General Finishes Exterior 450 is designed for vertical surfaces only and is not recommended for horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic or standing water. Choose a dedicated deck finish for those applications.

Does Exterior 450 add color to the wood?

No. Exterior 450 dries clear, preserving the natural look of the wood. It is suitable for bare wood or as a topcoat over General Finishes Milk Paint when you want protection without altering the existing color.

What surfaces can I use Exterior 450 Clear on?

It is suitable for exterior vertical surfaces including fences, patio furniture, garage doors, entrance doors, and interior windows that are exposed to the elements.

Does Exterior 450 protect against mold and mildew?

Yes. The formula includes a built-in mildewcide designed to retard mold and mildew growth on exterior wood surfaces that are regularly exposed to moisture.

How does the UV protection in Exterior 450 work?

The finish contains UV absorbers that help stabilize the film against sunlight degradation, slowing the breakdown that causes outdoor finishes to chalk, crack, or peel over time.

Can I apply Exterior 450 over an oil-based stain?

Always verify compatibility with the specific stain or primer you are using. For best results, apply over bare wood or a General Finishes-recommended base coat and allow full cure before topcoating. Visit the Infinity Tools learning center for finishing guidance.

Is Exterior 450 brushable or does it require spraying?

Exterior 450 can be applied by brush or roller for most vertical surfaces, making it accessible for DIY projects without spray equipment.

What size is the Exterior 450 Clear available in at Infinity Tools?

The General Finishes Exterior 450 Clear Top Coat is available in quart size.

Does Infinity Tools have a price-match policy on finishing products?
